The City of San Diego Commission for Arts and Culture serves in an advisory capacity to the Mayor and City Council on promoting, encouraging and increasing support for the region’s artistic and cultural assets, integrating arts and culture into community life and showcasing San Diego as an international tourist destination.

The Commission is composed of 15 volunteers appointed by the Mayor and is supported by a staff of professional arts administrators.

The Commission meets monthly on the fourth Friday of the month from 1:30 p.m. 3:00 p.m. (January – October) and on the third Friday of the month in November and December.

The City of San Diego’s Office of Boards and Commissions was created in 2018 to support the day-to-day operations for the City’s 49 boards and commissions and serves as an access point to the volunteer members appointed by the Mayor and City Council.

These entities serve in a fiduciary, regulatory, policy-setting and/or advisory capacity. The Office includes the existing executive directors and staff positions that support the following: Accessibility Advisory Board, Commission for Arts and Culture, Community Review Board on Police Practices, Commission on Gang Prevention and Intervention, and Human Relations Commission.
